Four years at Denison are coming to a close for the Class of 2022: 32+ classes covering the gamut of the liberal arts and sciences, intense discussions with favorite professors, hours-long sessions with your besties, grueling practices and exaultant game days, oh-so-hard-but-definitely-worth-it research projects, late-night rehearsals and dazzling performances — and we’ve barely scratched the surface of the accomplishments of this talented, resilient, and very active class.
Senior Week Celebrations
Celebrations for the Class of 2022 begin at the start of senior week on campus. Soon-to-be-graduates check items off the bucket list (Ring the Swasey bells! Take a ride down the slip-in-slide!), play laser tag and nighttime putt-putt golf, compete in some serious trivia and nosh on their favorite chicken fingers and mac n’ cheese. On Friday, students take time out from the festivities for the Baccalaureate service, a moment to reflect with gratitude for all they’ve gained during their time at Denison. Friday night’s Senior Sizzle, with parents and families, food trucks, and live music is the social culmination of the week.
Commencement Day
On Saturday — the big day — the faculty host a coffee for seniors and their families, and then it’s time for the line up, as students don their robes and gather outside Swasey. They process to the Academic Quad and are seated as they wait for the moment they cross the stage to receive their diploma from President Weinberg.
Commencement Services are livestreamed for loved ones to watch at home and follow along on the Commencement Program.
Each year at Commencement, through the conferral of honorary degrees, Denison recognizes individuals who have made extraordinary contributions to their field. This year, Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist Connie Schultz will deliver the keynote address.
Graduating senior Aditi Singh will present the student keynote for her class. Three student speaker finalists also share their reflections.
The celebration concludes with the assembly singing the Denison alma mater and an exuberant tossing of the mortarboards.
We will continue to add to our Commencement photo gallery.
