Students in introduction to photography responded to their final assignment in a diversity of ways in April 2020. The final project prompt was to consider still life from a historical and personal perspective. Each student interpreted and responded in their own unique way, exploring personal voice and situating the work in relation to contemporary and historical artists and movements.
As a viewer you can see that many of the works reflect the time in which we were, collectively, living – right at the beginning of the stay at home orders and response to COVID-19. It was, and continues to be, a very difficult time. Professor ReStack states, “One thing I noticed was the way in which the return to home, or off campus environments, allowed views into students lives that would not normally be shared or afforded on campus. The capacity to share this work and demonstrate vulnerability, tenacity, desire to communicate and find voice through image is evident in the work.”
