Philosophy, Politics and Economics is an interdisciplinary program designed around the historical, methodological and theoretical connections between philosophy, politics and economics.

Students who major in PPE undertake a rigorous and partly self-designed course of study that explores the theoretical foundations of political and economic thought and relates them to contemporary affairs.

Each prospective PPE student must propose a formal PPE course of study that indicates a general topic or theme that will serve as the focus of the major and that establishes which core courses and electives will count towards the major. Students are also expected to complete a senior research project.

The PPE program is overseen by a committee consisting of one faculty member from each of the PPE departments. The committee must approve the individual program of each major.

Program Guidelines

The PPE Program enables students to pursue a rigorous course of study that explores significant historical, methodological, and theoretical interconnections between philosophy, politics, and economics. It is designed to help students understand the theoretical and normative foundations of political and economic analysis.

The PPE Program is overseen by the PPE Committee, made up of one faculty member from each of the PPE departments. Each PPE major must choose a member of the PPE Committee to serve as their PPE Major Advisor. The PPE Committee (as a whole) must approve the individual Course of Study Proposal of each PPE student. Students who are interested in pursuing a major in PPE should contact a member of the PPE Committee shortly after they arrive on campus.
