The Contemporary Sounds Concert Series presents Nick May’s I Exist Project at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 2, in the Eisner Center’s Sharon Martin Hall. This eclectic performance of visuals and music features guest artist May on saxophone and Alex Li on piano, in collaboration with visual artist Chris Faur.
The I Exist Project amplifies the richness and diversity of queer life, culture, and artistry, fostering greater understanding, connection, and visibility for all. Each concert showcases the talents of emerging artists.
The project was personally important for director and visiting instructor Zachery Meier. “As an openly queer composer, I’ve recently found myself writing more about queer life,” Meier said. He trusted May’s musicality could handle “something a little outside the box.”
While on campus Friday, May will present an artist talk at the Red Frame Lab at 12:30 p.m. to discuss his work and teach students to create their own projects.
The I Exist Project was funded with support from Denison’s Queer Studies Program and Outlook student organization.
The concert is free and open to the public, but tickets are required.
