Denison’s Coordinator of Jazz Studies, Pete Mills, was the featured artist at the 53rd Marshall University Winter Jazz Festival as a clinician and performer, with his group, the Pete Mills B3 4tet and with the Marshall Jazz Ensemble.
The festival, which took place February 11-12, is one of the oldest collegiate jazz festivals in North America and features performances by the Marshall University Jazz Ensemble as well as regional middle school and high school jazz bands. As the 2022 guest artist, Mills performed with his quartet in two concerts and worked with students in rehearsals and masterclasses. Previous guest artists have included The Count Basie Orchestra, Maynard Ferguson, The USAF Airmen of Note, and The Sean Jones Quintet.
