Associate Professor of Music HyeKyung Lee likes to stay busy. In addition to teaching music theory and composition at Denison, she is a fervent composer whose recent works she has debuted in Scotland and Brazil. Last year she presented some of her original music in Burke Recital Hall. The result was an enthralling mix of musical styles and performances.
“Writing for various mediums is very important to me,” says Lee, whose concert featured both electronic and acoustic music from a variety of musicians.
Collaboration, too, it seems, is a key element to Lee’s passion for music. Whether it was with a Denison faculty member, like Andy Carlson, or guest artists, like Kevin Schempf, Angela Early, or the Avion Saxophone Quartet, Lee was eager to share the spotlight. Even her solo piano performance featured stunning visuals composed by Christian Faur, Denison’s director of collaborative technologies for the fine arts.
