The following summer scholar research projects were completed in the history department in Summer 2020.
- Eli Goldman ’23 (history and East Asian studies double major)
“The impact of pikes and guns in Sengoku-Period Japan”
- Antonio Zacco ’22 (history and Spanish double major)
“Communicating a Link Between Suffering and Salvation: A Critique of Changing Portrayals of SubSaharan African Children in 21st Century Western Humanitarian Media”
In addition:
- Hannah Bradvica ’22 (history and political science double major) completed a summer scholar research project in the political science department titled “Policy Entrepreneurship and Congressional Opposition to the International Criminal Court”
- Farah Farah (Hersi) ’22 (history, sociology and anthropology, and French triple major) completed a summer scholar research project in the anthropology/sociology and Black studies departments titled “Contemporary Effects of White Flight and Re-segregation on Columbus City Schools.”
Summer Scholars Program
Denison’s flagship Summer Scholars program gives students in all disciplines a unique venue in which to experiment with ideas and artistic expression, pursue an intellectual passion, and/or focus intently on the resolution of a question over a sustained period of time, free from the pressures of grades and credit.
Endowed funds support approximately 120 students pursuing full-time independent research or collaborative work under the close supervision of a faculty member for up to 10 weeks during the summer.
Qualified rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors propose independent or collaborative projects in the sciences, social sciences, humanities, fine arts, or interdisciplinary fields. Projects do not need to be in a student’s major. All Summer Scholars receive a stipend and a housing allowance plus supplemental funds for research expenses. Off-Campus Summer Scholars also receive travel funding.
