No Single Perspective, presented by the Dance Department, is a collaborative concert of four works composed by faculty and performed by students.
The first work, offered by Professor Sandra Mathern, opens with students in the hallways and alcoves near the entrance to Thorsen, suggesting the exploration of and initiation into the new studio performance space. The second and third works are both offered by Chicago choreographer and Denison Alum Molly Shanahan. The first is a quartet to music played by Third Coast Percussion (Chicago) with movement developed in partnership with her signature fluid, spiralic phrase work. The second is a large ensemble work for self-identified ‘non-dancers’ that asks performers to soften muscular armoring and create/share an environment of collaboration, vulnerability, and compassion. The final work, offered by Associate Professor Ojeya Cruz Banks, celebrates the Black Student Union’s 50th anniversary event in a performance work that includes narration and song.
