Denison University’s Department of Dance and the Vail Series presents a collaborative project which features the live music of ETHEL, choreography by Sandra Mathern, performance by Denison students Sarah Barney, Alex Rivera, Bridget Ryan, Val Victor, and Sophie Vilter. This one-night only event will be presented in the Doane Dance Performance Space on Saturday, April 13, at 8:30 p.m. Seating is limited. For reservations email dance@denison.edu.
The concert unfolds in three parts. The first and third are a designed as a series of improvisational scores devised by Mathern and embodied by the performers, whose personal decisions and creative agency completes and imagines them as choreographies. ETHEL plays improvised and composed works that range from playful and titillating to introspective and emotional. For the second part of the evening Mathern presents her dynamic and powerful quintet, Stark Fields and A Promise, to the dramatic composition, Cerulean/Maroon, composed by HyeKyung Lee, Associate Professor of Music.
