Assistant professor of computer science Stacey Truex has been recognized for her exceptional teaching and research and commitment to student mentorship with the Suzanne B. & Theodore A. Bosler Endowed Faculty Fellowship.
“A critical component of being an effective computer science educator is giving students the benefit of my experiences in the field”, Truex said. “I also encourage them to discover the myriad ways in which computer science is different and broader than most common stories we are told about computing.”
As a computer scientist, Truex sits at the intersection of theory and practice, developing and applying theoretical frameworks from the area of data privacy to machine learning settings of growing prominence in today’s technology landscape.
As a researcher, she looks for opportunities where “new theories can be developed to meet the challenges of modern practice in machine learning or where practice can embrace state-of-the-art theoretical advancements” she said
Truex joined the Denison community in the fall of 2021. She holds a Bachelor of Science in computer science and a Bachelor of Arts in mathematics from Wake Forest University, a Master of Science in computer science and systems from the University of Washington, and a Ph.D. in computer science from Georgia Institute of Technology.
