The Vail Visiting Artist program welcomes Jessie Kanelos Weiner ’08 and Cyrille Weiner for an artists’ talk.
A photographer born in 1976 and trained at the Ecole nationale supérieure Louis Lumière, Cyrille lives in Paris. His work has been published by numerous international magazines, such as “M Le Monde,” “New York Times,” “T magazine,” “Foam,” “British Journal of Photography,” and “Art Press,” and exhibited at MAC Lyon, the Rencontres d’Arles and the Villa Noailles in Hyères. He was the laureate of the Prix Lucien Hervé and Rudolf Hervé in 2012 and the author of “Presque île” (Almost Island) (2009) and of “Twice,” (2015). Weiner recurrently poses the question of space, and how individuals appropriate themselves to their living spaces, distanced from directives coming from “on high.” Progressively leaving the documentary register, he proposes a universe crossed by fiction, that he establishes with exhibitions, editorial projects and installations.
Illustrator, food stylist and author Jessie is best known for her vibrant watercolor illustrations and fine line coloring books. She works for international clients including Nespresso, Kellogg’s, Rizzoli and the Hachette Book Group among many others. Her work has appeared in international style publications “Vogue,” “T Magazine,” “Cherry Bombe,” “Le Nouvel Observateur” and “M Le Magazine du Monde.” She writes and illustrates a popular blog about her life called “thefrancofly.com.” She has written a handful of cookbooks, including a collection of American family recipes adapted to French tastes “Pâtisseries et gâteaux d’Amérique” (Marabout). Her latest book “Edible Paradise: A Coloring Book of Seasonal Fruits and Vegetables” (Rizzoli’s Universe Imprint), intricately explores the edible plant kingdom. Jessie graduated magna cum laude in 2008. As a senior from Chicago, she was awarded the President’s Medal, the highest student honor conferred by Denison. Jessie earned a bachelor of arts in theatre arts with a minor in studio art. She was a Posse Foundation Scholar and president of the Theta Alpha Phi theatre honorary. Jessie currently lives and works in Paris, France.
