Three Denison voice students won awards for their singing at the National Association of Teachers of Singing competition at Ohio University on Saturday, March 12. Laura Wilson ‘14 from Bakersfield, Calif., Imani Abernathy ‘16 from Chicago, and Janyce Caraballo ‘17, also from Chicago, won 2nd, 3rd, and 4th in the Musical Theatre Category competing against the largest music programs in the state.
All three students study voice with Dr. Belinda Andrews-Smith.
According to their website, the purpose of the National Association of Teachers of Singing competition “has been to select, through a series of elimination rounds on the district, regional, and national levels, singers whose artistry indicates that they are ready for a professional career and to encourage them toward that goal with a cash prize and the opportunity for performance engagements.”
