This past summer Jared Thompson ‘04, a former student of Denison’s Coordinator of Jazz Studies Pete Mills, was commissioned by the Indy Jazz Festival 2020 to create a soundtrack for the mini-documentary, 38th and Postmodernism, that reflected his music, his activism, and the spirit of the arts community of Indy.
Premiering on November 21, Thompson said, “We wanted to create a visual and aural timepiece that spoke to the myriad of issues that have made 2020 so polarizing. We also wanted to amplify the voices of the artists in this city that continue to curate and cultivate the rich culture here in Indy despite the setbacks that have been ever-present not just this year, but in years past. Our music is framed by short interview clips and cityscapes to add depth and perspective to the message and emotive tone of the compositions.”
